The current building dates back to the eighteenth century, but a church already existed on the site as early as the fifth and sixth centuries. The name Xenodochio is linked to the tradition that the Lombard Duke Rodoaldo built a hospice, a tradition also confirmed by a Carolingian diploma from 792.

The church of San Giovanni in Xenocidio existed during the Middle Ages, serving as a hospice for wayfarers, and was completely rebuilt in the 16th century. Unfortunately, I found it closed and was unable to admire the interior, including the work by Palma the Younger. That will be for the next visit.
