Monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza is a monastery located in Hortigüela.
Only part of the monastery was open to visitors as restoration works were ongoing. Absolutely wonderful and so good to see the Spanish authorities looking after their historic monuments. Interesting to find out it had been a location for …
This monastery site is sometimes described as "ruins" but much of the structure is still standing. There has been substantial preservation work done recently at great expense and with much care. The smaller cloister and the sacristy are both architectural gems. Well worth the visit. Free entry.
It's so nice to be able to visit a ruin; something that hasn't been restored to make it look brand new, which happens a lot. It's a quiet place you can wander around at your leisure. Check out the oldest building of the lot up on the hill. Definitely worth stopping for.
