Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña
C. Sta. Anita, 42174 San Pedro Manrique, Soria, Spain
Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña is a church located in San Pedro Manrique.
Rebuilt in the 17th century, only the original doorway remains, with the Baroque-style main altar standing out inside. Located at the highest point of the town, it hosts a unique ritual, the Passage of Fire on the night of San Juan, declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
This 12th/13th-century hermitage collapsed, leaving only the portal standing, and was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, its Baroque high altar being a highlight. At its base is a small stone amphitheater, where the "Passing of the Fire" ceremony is held every year. It has been a listed building of cultural interest since 2006.
A special place and a magical hermitage.
