Church of Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Encarnación, Baza : Pl. Mayor, 2, 18800 Baza, Granada, Spain

It is a monumental building with a beautiful Renaissance-style facade and a spectacular interior, featuring a magnificent ribbed vault. Its facade displays several coats of arms whose figures, unfortunately, are deteriorated by the passage of centuries and by wars and earthquakes.

This church, built in the 16th century on the site of a former Arab mosque, is accessible from the rear of the sanctuary and altar, which is why it lacks a backdrop altarpiece. The facade faces the main square, where the town hall is also located. A staircase leads to the portico.

My first time in Baza and I was impressed by this basilica, which is almost a cathedral. It's well worth a visit to admire its magnificent structure, carvings, and works of art. It's also worth strolling around the surrounding area to discover charming little squares.
