Trzemeszno is associated with a legend dating back to the earliest Piast era. It was here that the body of Saint Adalbert was supposedly laid to rest after being ransomed from the Prussians by Bolesław the Brave and before being transferred to Gniezno. A sculpture of the saint—a symbolic tomb—in the altar recalls this story.
