An example of rigorous Romanesque-Gothic / Cistercian architecture, considered a masterpiece of that style in central Italy second only to the nearby Fossanova Abbey. The cloister is the heart and maybe the most important space of the Valvisciolo Abbey in terms of history, art and symbolism.

The building has been completely rebuilt, as has the cloister; only the original layout remains. Unfortunately, we couldn't even enjoy the silence, as motorized hang gliders were circling overhead. Furthermore, cars park right in front of the entrance.
