Monastery Yperagathou is a monastery located in Nomós Zakýnthou.
Nice old monastery in the centre of Zakanthos, in a beautiful quiet surrounding. The 4 km dirt road to get there from Koiliomenos by a small car is perhaps even more fascinating than the monastery itself, full of holes and rocks. The car hire company might not be too pleased with the trip...
Interesting piece of WWII history. “The first station of the Allied Military Mission to the Ionian Islands was established here during German occupation and operated from 26 April 1944 to the liberation”
We hiked from Loúcha to the Yperagathou Monastery, as the unpaved section in particular is only accessible with a four-wheel drive. The roughly one-hour hike (one way) to the monastery is very scenic – unfortunately, the monastery was completely closed from October onwards and only open in the mornings during the summer months.
