Chapelle du Champ des Martyrs
2A Av. Jean Lurçat, 49240 Avrillé, France
Chapelle du Champ des Martyrs is a chapel located in Avrillé.
A chapel. For my part, a discovery during the 2025 heritage weekend. A beautiful explanation concerning the history of the chapel and also on the history of the martyrs who rest near the chapel. In the latter there are various panels with 800 names of executed people. 800 names of the 2000 people executed.
A significant place in French history. The chapel boasts beautiful stained glass windows that tell the dramatic stories of the Revolution's victims, especially the one depicting a mother and her two daughters. In Anger, a church was demolished to replace the altar of St. Peter with a guillotine.
A deeply moving place of prayer and remembrance. The memory of all its martyrs is vividly portrayed in the tranquility of the place and the prayers offered, particularly on the feast of Saint Louis...
